Das CA/Browser Forum – ein Zusammenschluss aller großen Zertifizierungsstellen und Browser-Hersteller wie Apple, Google, Mozilla und Microsoft – hat beschlossen, die maximale Gültigkeitsdauer von SSL-Zertifikaten schrittweise zu verkürzen. Seit März 2026 wird weltweit keinem neu ausgestellten SSL-Zertifikat mit einer Gültigkeitsdauer von mehr als 200 Tagen mehr vertraut. Diese Änderung gilt für alle Arten von SSL-Zertifikaten und betrifft sämtliche Zertifizierungsstellen. Wie reagiert Host Europe auf die geänderte Gültigkeitsdauer von SSL-Zertifikaten?

• Wir haben uns auf diese Änderungen eingestellt und behalten die weiteren Entwicklungen genau im Blick.
• Wir bieten SSL-Zertifikate mit flexiblen Vertragslaufzeiten an – Sie können zwischen 6 und 12 Monaten wählen, wobei 12 Monate vorausgewählt ist. Unabhängig von der gewählten Vertragslaufzeit wird Ihr Zertifikat automatisch in regelmäßigen Abständen neu validiert und neu ausgestellt.
• Der Preis ist für beide Laufzeiten gleich und wird für die gesamte gewählte Laufzeit im Voraus berechnet. Bei inklusiven Zertifikaten ändert sich für Sie nichts.

Muss ich etwas ändern?

• Nutzen Sie unsere Nameserver, müssen Sie nichts weiter tun – wir kümmern uns automatisch um alles.
• Wird Ihre Domain über einen externen Anbieter verwaltet, müssen Sie das neu ausgestellte Zertifikat zu gegebener Zeit manuell installieren.
• In beiden Fällen informieren wir Sie per E-Mail rechtzeitig vor jeder Neuvalidierung, damit Sie immer wissen, was passiert.

Informationen für Bestandskunden mit automatischer Verlängerung

• Ihr Zertifikat wurde bereits auf eine 6-monatige Vertragslaufzeit umgestellt: Bei der nächsten Verlängerung wird automatisch wieder auf eine 12-monatige Vertragslaufzeit gewechselt – es sei denn, Sie ändern dies aktiv im KIS. Die Neuvalidierung erfolgt weiterhin automatisch in regelmäßigen Abständen.
• Ihr Zertifikat wurde noch nicht auf eine 6-monatige Vertragslaufzeit umgestellt: Es wird weiterhin mit einer 12-monatigen Vertragslaufzeit verlängert – es sei denn, Sie ändern dies aktiv im KIS. Die Neuvalidierung erfolgt weiterhin automatisch in regelmäßigen Abständen.

Ausblick: Weitere Verkürzungen geplant

Das CA/Browser Forum hat bereits weitere Reduzierungen der Gültigkeitsdauer beschlossen. Ab März 2027 wird die maximale Gültigkeitsdauer auf 100 Tage verkürzt, ab März 2029 sogar auf nur noch 47 Tage. 

Automatische Zertifikate bei Host Europe

Gut zu wissen: Wenn Sie unser klassisches Webhosting, cPanel Webhosting oder einen Virtual Server nutzen, müssen Sie sich keine Sorgen machen. Beim klassischen Webhosting werden Ihre Zertifikate automatisch eingebunden. Beim cPanel Webhosting erfolgt die automatische Verlängerung über Let's Encrypt. Bei Virtual Servern kann dies ebenfalls über Let's Encrypt konfiguriert werden. Ihre Zertifikate werden automatisch erneuert – unabhängig davon, wie kurz die Gültigkeitsdauer in Zukunft sein wird.

• The price is the same for both contract terms and will be charged for the full contract period in advance. For included certificates, nothing changes for you.

Do I have to change anything?

• If you are using our nameservers, there's nothing you need to do — we handle everything automatically.
• If your domain is managed with an external provider, you will need to manually install the reissued certificate when the time comes.
• Either way, we'll always email you ahead of each revalidation so you know exactly what's happening.

Information for existing customers with automatic renewal

• Your certificate has already been renewed on a 6-month contract term: At the next renewal, it will automatically revert to a 12-month contract term — unless you actively change this in KIS. Revalidation will continue automatically at regular intervals.
• Your certificate has not yet been renewed on a 6-month contract term: It will continue to renew on a 12-month contract term — unless you actively change this in KIS. Revalidation will continue automatically at regular intervals.

Outlook: Further reductions planned

The CA/Browser Forum has already approved further reductions in validity periods. From March 2027, the maximum validity period will be reduced to 100 days, and from March 2029 to just 47 days. 

Automatic certificates at Host Europe

Good to know: If you use our classic web hosting, cPanel web hosting, or a Virtual Server, you don't need to worry. With classic web hosting, your certificates are automatically integrated. With cPanel web hosting, automatic renewal is handled via Let's Encrypt. With Virtual Servers, this can also be configured via Let's Encrypt. Your certificates will be renewed automatically – regardless of how short the validity period becomes in the future.
